    By Tom May:

Marvin "Tack" Hardiman and my Dad {Alvin May MAY 106 } were as close as brothers. As a young boy I was able to sit on Marvin's porch and listen to them talk about the "good ole days". When we would stop by and Marvin was not home we would go into town and often find Marvin around the court house right in the center of town. I watched the men whittling and listen to their stories. I have wished many times that I had a tape recorded then and recorded all stories.

Several times Marvin would get Grandpa Martin's knife he carried in the Civil War and let me whittle a little with it. He also let me hold the gold piece that Grandpa carried with him.

The two things that changes Lawrenceburg most for me were the tearing down of the old courthouse and when we heard that Marvin died. Visiting the area just didn't seem the same. I missed seeing Marvin in his overhauls and stripped cap.

My Dad and I were in Tennessee buying cattle just a couple of weeks before Marvin died and stopped at His house on a Friday night. That Saturday Marvin went with Dad to the auction in Hohenwald. That was the last time Alvin was in Lawrenceburg, Dad never wanted to go back after we heard that Marvin died. I was able to stop and see Edna and Herman Dale a few times when I was in the area.

I had a lot of fun visiting Tennessee as a kid. I wonder if Nancy remembers catching lizards at the May Cemetery?
